Trying organic weed control: Vinegar and friends
So, after the initial raping of my lawn by the dandelions this spring, I sprayed the yard with weed killer. This was necessary for my sanity. I don't love handling hazardous chemicals any day of the week though. And I have some stubborn weeds poking up through my landscaping fabric and mulch in the bare areas around my driveway.
Because I want no life to take place in these areas I looked online for some organic weed control methods. I remembered in my short sustainable landscaping class that I had taken that my teacher said we could use vinegar like you can use a contact herbicide(like Roundup). So I searched the old Pinterest. And this home-made organic herbicide recipe came up.

Allow me to re-iterate I am only using this method due to the fact that I want all lifeforms to die in the area I am using it.
We just bought our first weed whacker so after the weeds hopefully perish i will pull them out and then whack the corners of our yard and then I won't be afraid our village will write us a ticket for a generally unpleasant looking yard.
Ingredients:
-Vinegar. The acetic acid in vinegar by itself will do the job just fine and it's certainly cheap enough.
-Salt: *This Simpsons quote will explain why you shouldn't be using this near flower beds.
"Ned: Excuse me neighbor I couldn't help but notice you picked pretty much all of my flowers!
Homer: Can't make a float without flowers...Ned: Uh, sure enough, but did you have to salt the earth so nothing would ever grow again?Homer: Hehehehe.. yeah."
-Dish soap I'll be honest I don't know what this does but it was suggested on multiple sites and I figure it can't hurt. Er... heal? Hopefully it will help the vinegar and salt kill better.
So let's head to the kitchen!!
And then.
The weeds, man.
Now the directions said to use a spray bottle but I was lazy and dumped the whole gallon out in spurts.
I poured my concoction on at 7pm on a Tuesday.
So fingers crossed we will have some perma-dead weed pictures in a couple days.
To be continuted....

The salt was sitting at the bottom so i shook it and then let it sit for about 15 minutes.
Dish soap for good luck.
